From the Inside Out (Hillsong United):
This has got to be one of my favorite songs that I have ever heard. Hillsong United has an amazing talent for capturing God’s heart in their songs. This one hits home for me. Whether I am singing this song leading worship, participating in a worship time, or even just listening to it in my car, it always reminds me of one thing: God’s grace and mercy.
The song starts off “A thousand times I failed, still Your mercy remains. Should I stumble again, I’m caught in Your grace.” To me that is probably my favorite line of the song. This is not saying that I have a license to sin and do whatever I want, because God will forgive me. That is totally taking Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for granted. That line in the song speaks of God’s unlimited mercy that He will always take back a heart that truly repents of the wrong action and has the grace to fully erase my mistake from existence. When I ask for God to forgive my “stumble” as Hillsong says in the song and truly repent from my sin, it’s as if it never happened. “Everlasting Your light will shine when all else fades. Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame.” God is everlasting and will never end. He is the Alpha and Omega, beginning and end.
When everything else in this life seems to fail and I seem all alone, God is always right there. Jesus says in the Bible, “If you remain in Me, I will remain in You” and “I will be with you to the very end.” So if you take anything from this song, take away the truth that God is very near to you, He cares for you, and He will forgive fully any wrong that may be in your life. No one and nothing is out of God’s reach and forgiveness. When you accept God it changed you. It starts in the soul, and flows from the inside out. Your love for God starts in you own heart, then spreads to be reflected in every aspect of your life. From the inside out.
