About Joey

21 years old!
God is the absolute center of my life.
I love Jesus and I am passionate about my relationship with God.
I am going to school for ministry at Global University. I feel God is calling me to minister to the youth of this generation, but I am willing to go wherever God calls me.
My Bible is the source for everything.
I have learned a lot lately about waiting on God and how hard it really is. But it ALWAYS the way to go. Listen for God’s voice and obey Him.
I am in an a band, Turnaround, and I love it. I am so excited to see what God does with us and I hope to uplift Christ with our music to everyone who hears us.
God has surrounded me with amazing people in my life.
You could probably say I have an obsession with music.
I have the absolute weirdest taste in music. I listen to Christian music because I want to reflect God in all that I do in life. I love almost any genre of music. Except country, you can keep that junk…
I am extremely goofy, and I mean VERY goofy
I normally don’t shut up if you start talking to me, I’m a talker
Even though I never thought of myself as a reader, I actually love to read.

My goal for this blog is to communicate the truths of God that are laid out in the Bible. The Bible is my number one source for all my posts. I pray that God will use my posts to speak to the hearts of readers and bring them to a better understanding of God’s Word. May God have all glory and honor!

Hey Sebastian! Thank you for the encouragement! I really felt that the material that the Lord is teaching me and what I am being schooled for (Bible and Theology) could really help out some people, encourage believers, and possibly even lead them to Christ. I figured why not use any methods possible to spread the Gospel! I am looking forward to keeping up with your posts as well and I pray that God will use both of our blogs to His Glory!

Hello Joey, thank you for joining up with us we really do appreciate this, it’s so uplifting to share with others in the Family of God and we look forward to reading more of your posts.

Like you we Love music, Ron has an awesome voice and his family are very gifted in music, both his Daughter and Grandson teach it but unlike you we like country too and we like the balance God tells us to have in worship but we do not like Music that is disorted or words that are in error.

Wow Joey I talk a lot too but I make sense, what about you 😀

I’m obsessed with music, too! In fact, I’m going to go to school for it in the fall. 🙂 I enjoy practically any genre of music, except that I have particular fondness for classical, baroque, and most choral music in general.
It is so exciting to find other young people who share my passion for Christ and all for which He stands! I find myself sadly isolated at times from my peers because I stay true to what I know to be right and isolated from adults simply because of the age gap. I’m striving to change that!

Hey thanks so much for the encouragement! I know at times it can seem hard to maintain your faith especially when no one around seems to do so, but God promises us if we stand firm to the end we will be saved! Eternal life with could is infinitely more great than anything this world has to offer! I love to listen to classical music too! Country is really the only thing I cannot listen too lol. But I only listen to Christian music because I felt God calling me to do that. But within Christian music, I listen to almost every kind of genre! Stay strong in your faith and keep up your work for the Kingdom!

“Nonchristian” music can convey truth, too! As Augustine says, “The gold is Yours, wherever it was.” He was referring to the Israelites taking the Egyptians’ gold. The gold itself was not bad, just the ways in which the Egyptians used it. Nonbelievers can find nuggets of truth and convey them very creatively and well through music, too! Be careful not to discount it solely because the band is not “christian” (or they don’t openly say they are Christians). In fact, music can be a great discussion-opener with nonbelievers!

      • Joey Coons

Oh I totally agree with you! I just felt the Lord telling me to do that because of the influence music had negatively in my past. I totally think a lot of artists in secular music are very good and have great messages,my choice to listen to solely Christian music is more of a command from God for me than anything. I’m not saying others can listen to it though! As long as it’s clean and not effecting your behavior I don’t see issues with it! But God told me no, so I tend to want to listen to Him 🙂

    • AJ Petersen

That makes much more sense. 🙂 Thanks for clarifying!!

      • Joey Coons

No problem! I know a lot of times I’ve been told I’m far to strict or I push my convictions on others. I never try to do that, but I do try to be sure I am firm with what the Lord has told me! 🙂

And that is so important! Amen to that — staying strong in Abba’s truth!!

Hi Joey did you know there are songs not considered Christian because they don’t say the names Jesus or God but there is great Spiritual Truth in them. I will share one with you that I heard over 30 years ago, I was an Atheist, so lost, so confused and so hurting and I didn’t understand what all the words meant but I couldn’t get them out of my mind and I always felt so uplifted when I heard the song, like I feel now knowing God Loves me, I realised later it was The Holy Spirit talking to my heart and drawing me to the Lord, it was not long after that I heard the Gospel and started my journey with Him.This song became popular because of the Artist Anne Murry but the song writer Randy Goodrum described it as being about “unconditional, undeserved Love. The Holy Spirit does indeed leave His seeds of Truth everywhere.

    You Needed Me

    I cried a tear
    You wiped it dry
    I was confused
    You cleared my mind
    I sold my soul
You bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
    Somehow you needed me

    Chorus
    You gave me strength
    To stand alone again
    To face the world
    Out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
    You needed me
    You needed me

    And I can’t believe it’s you I can’t believe it’s true
I needed you and you were there
And I’ll never leave, why should I leave
    I’d be a fool
‘Cause I’ve finally found someone who really cares

    You held my hand
    When it was cold
    When I was lost
    You took me home
    You gave me hope
When I was at the end
    And turned my lies
    Back into truth again
    You even called me friend

    Repeat Chorus

Hey Anne! Thanks so much for your comment! I totally agree that songs that aren’t considered Christian can have very Christian messages! This was more of a personal decision for me because the Lord spoke to me when I was coming back after years of sinful living and told me to purge my music and leave only the music that is Christian music. Music had affected my life negatively for years, so I really believed God called to that. But I’m not saying that Christians can’t listen to other music at all! I’m sorry if my bio may seem misleading, it’s a direct command from God and I wanna listen to Him 🙂 I appreciate your testimony so much and I love how God used that song to speak to you! Thanks again so much for your comment! I appreciate your wisdom! 🙂 blessings!

Hi again Joey, yes you must do as God has convicted you and in so doing you will have His Love, Joy, Peace and Rest in Christ Jesus, not that He ever stopped Loving you or ever would but you were unable to experience it and His Fruit because your sin seperated you from Him like mine did but He saw you from a distance and you were always in His heart as I was. I respect your commitment to obey God regardless of the cost Joey, this is often not so in the churches today, Christ is not considered The Head of the Body but man.

I Love all types of music except what man distorts or lyric’s that are in error, they upset me. God tells us to have His balance in Music, Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual songs, sadly today we don’t always see this in the Churches. Melody in Greek means stringed instruments but whether we play them or we sing it must come from our hearts and we are to be in Unity which comes from Love and having the same focus and being of one mind which is the mind of Christ – 1 Corinthians2:9 -16

Music has many wonderful memories for every Generation and we see this in the Church History… Hymns then Scripture or Psalms in Song and what we have mainly today Spiritual songs, most Christian Music falls within these three groups and they all are beautiful but of course words must be checked for error, one Hymn talks about worshiping Mother god and God being weary these are in error. But even so as we both shared some Music classified as non Christian can touch our heart, The Holy Sprit leaves His Truth everywhere.

    Ephesians 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Colossians 3:15-17And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

It’s refreshing to see a young man not following after the things this world has to offer but instead chooses to search after God. God Chasers are men who seek God in all things looking for Him in every corner of their lives. Keep chasing, you never know where God will lead you.
